Gulsah Torunoglu

Gulsah Torunoglu is a doctoral candidate at the Ohio State University, currently completing her dissertation, entitled “Comparative Feminisms: Secular and Religious Discourses in Turkish and Egyptian Women’s Movements, 1880-1930,” under the direction of Prof. Carter V. Findley. Based on two years of research in multiple archives in Egypt, Turkey and the United Kingdom, her dissertation establishes a dialogue between Turkish and Egyptian feminisms, compares nationalist versus Islamic trends among them, and takes stock of their interactions with and resistances to western feminists.
