Kirsten Hildonen

I earned my BA from the University of New Hampshire, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2008 and received her Master of Arts from Ohio State in 2012. I study Modern Eastern Europe & Russia with a focus on Southeastern Europe. My particular research interests include pre-Communist Yugoslavia, war & occupation, issues of nationality, urban spaces, discourses of power, and social history. In my dissertation, entitled "Belgrade at War: Everyday Life Under German Occupation, 1941-44," I explore the way in which the presence of the German occupation force in Belgrade, Serbia during World War II shaped daily rituals and interactions in the city, and the ways in which the bonds of the urban community were permanently renegotiated by the occupation.
