Ila Nagar

Ila Nagar is an associate professor in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (NELC) at the Ohio State University. Her research focuses on the relationship between language, gender, and sexuality; particularly how people negotiate gender and sexual identity through language. Her forthcoming book, Being Janana: Language and Sexuality in Contemporary India, examines how jananas, men who desire men but can have heteronormatively masculine positions in society, make meaning of the marginalization of their sexuality and desire. She manages the Hindi program at OSU, as well as the South Asia Studies Minor.
