5/22/14: The Best in History Online - "Active History.ca"

We'd like to take a moment to highlight fantastic history sites from around the web. These are sites that – much like Origins – seek to bring history into public conversation.

In this post, we feature Active History.caa website connecting historians work to the wider public with the linking of past topics to current events.

The site is supported by The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Avie Bennett Historica Chair in Canadian History, and York University - the result of a conference on "Active History: History for the Future" in 2008.

Active History.ca features papers, book reviews, and podcasts on topics ranging from Asian Carp to The War of 1812.

"Active history" is defined by the site as "history that listens and is responsive; history that will make a tangible difference in people's lives; history that makes an intervention and is transformative to both practitioners and communities."

We highly recommend you check out this site, and if you're a Francophone, their French sister-site, Histoire Engagée.
