Best in History Online: WNYU News

From time to time, we like to take a moment to highlight fantastic history sites from around the web. These are websites that–much like Origins–seek to bring history into public conversation.

Our Best in History Online for July bridges our love of podcasts and radio with timely, yet historical, content.

WNYU News is the award-winning news department of WNYU, New York University’s radio station. They broadcast to the New York region at 89.1 FM, and stream online to everyone else at wnyu.org. Their programming includes interviews with leaders in fields of creativity, science, and politics, and discussions on relationships, and arts & culture.

We especially like their series "In the Scope" which looks at the history of things often taken for granted such as QWERTY keyboards, garage sales, and the 40-hour work week. In fact, Episode #3, Political Parties features Marc Horger's Origins article. In the article and podcast, Horger discusses the history and dangers of factionalism even though Americans have always loved political parties. Horger concludes that parties may change their characters but the two-party system has proved remarkably durable over time. Take a listen below–this topic could not be more timely.
