Louis A. Pérez, Jr. is presently the J. Carlyle Sitterson Professor of History and the Director of the Institute for the Study of the Americas at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His principal research engages nineteenth- and twentieth-century Cuba. The most recent book is The Structure of Cuban History: Meanings and the Purpose of the Past (Chapel Hill, 2013).
