Patrick Scharfe

Patrick Scharfe is a PhD candidate at the Ohio State University, advised by Prof. Jane Hathaway. Patrick spent the 2011-12 academic year conducting doctoral dissertation research in Cairo as a fellow at ARCE (the American Research Center in Egypt) on the role of Islamic scholars in shaping Ottoman political debate, focusing particularly on the era of Mehmed Ali Pasha in Egypt. He has lived and taught in Cairo for more than two years, but is currently in the United States. He received his BA from Northwestern University in 2007.
