Mary Anne Trasciatti is Professor of Rhetoric and Director of Labor Studies at Hofstra University and the past president of Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition. She teaches and writes about labor and working-class movements, social protest, and the relationship between historical memory and activism. Among her recent books is the co-edited anthology Talking to the Girls: Intimate and Political Essays on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. She helps organize the annual official commemoration of the fire, and she led the project to build the Triangle Fire Memorial. Dedicated in 2023, it is New York City’s first labor memorial and one of a small number of monuments in the city dedicated to women.
