Sara Halpern is a PhD candidate in Jewish and European history in the Department of History at Ohio State. Her research interests encompass the Jewish diaspora, migration, international diplomacy and the family in the mid-20th century. She is currently working on a dissertation project pertaining to European Jewish emigration from Shanghai between 1945 and 1951. She has conducted research in Australia, Canada, Europe, Israel and the United States. In addition, she has lived in Israel multiple times and has been fascinated by its complex social structure and many cultures.
