Tristan R. Grunow is Associate Professor of Modern Japanese History at Nagoya University. His research explores Japanese imperial urban planning and architecture in the Meiji and Taisho periods. Recent publications include “Reconstructing State-Formation and Empire-Building in Meiji Japan” in Revisiting Japan’s Restoration: New Approaches to the Study of the Meiji Transformation (New York, NY: Routledge, 2021). He also hosted and produced the Meiji at 150 Podcast from 2017-2019 as part of the Meiji at 150 Project at the University of British Columbia.
