Daniel Vandersommers is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Animal History at McMaster University. Before arriving to Ontario in June, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi, teaching courses for the Department of History and the Environmental Studies program. He is currently working on two books. First, he is coediting (with Tracy McDonald) Zoo Studies and a New Humanities, under contract with the University of Toronto Press. Second, he is finishing his own book titled The National Zoological Park and the Transformation of Humanism in Nineteenth-Century America. Daniel earned his Ph.D. in Early American History from The Ohio State University in August 2014.
