With the implementation of Obamacare making news left and right, it seemed fitting to consider the greater historical context of the U.S. health care system.
For Origins' January article, historian Jessica Adler explained how "People Were Skeptical about Veterans' Hospitals, Too: The Affordable Care Act and Health Policy Precedents." She here argues that the current controversy surrounding Obamacare is nothing new. Indeed, similar dissent surfaced with the creation of the Veterans Health Administration in the early 20th century.
She recently joined guest host, Steve Brown, on the NPR affiliated program, All Sides with Ann Fisher, for a discussion on "Body Politics" and this important history of health care. Find her interview here, both in video and podcast form, and enjoy this lively discussion!
